What is Stainless Steel Casting?

Stainless steel casting can be defined as the investment casting process where melton stainless steel is poured into moulds for solidification, resulting in a solid stainless steel component in the required shape and size.

As with other cast steel alloys, stainless steel casting is used wherever steel properties and corrosion resistance are needed.

The application of stainless steel castings

Due to stainless steel’s unique physical properties, stainless steel castings are used in many industries, especially those in severe environments. The following are the main applications for stainless steel castings:

1. Components made of stainless steel for valves and pumps

Casting with stainless steel is the most widely used technique for valves & pumps. Stainless steel casting is able to produce any complex shape due to its complex design for valves & pumps. This makes stainless steel casting a cost-effective choice for pump and valve applications because it is durable enough to withstand severe service applications. Components made from stainless steel casting include valve bodies, valve discs, valve bonnets, valve glands, pump bodies, pump impellers, etc.

2. Casting of stainless steel for food processing equipment

Since stainless steel is rust resistant, almost all food processing equipments are made of stainless steel. These stainless steel components are typically assembled together by many stainless steel components. In order to produce these stainless steel components, several methods are used, including casting, forging, welding, machining from plate, and so on. As a manufacturing process, casting is most flexible for producing complex shaped components for food processing machinery. The stainless steel casting process is widely used for food machinery components, including metal grinder components, coffee machine components, etc.

3. Stainless Steel Casting for Pipe Fittings

There are many industries in which pipe fittings are used to connect, terminate, control flow, and change the direction of piping. If you are planning to purchase pipe fittings, you should consider the application and choose stainless steel 316, which is more corrosion resistant and stronger than stainless steel 304. For small-scale production, stainless steel casting is the most cost-effective method.
